February 24 @ 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Event Navigation
Chaplains give spiritual and religious support in prisons, schools, the military and healthcare, to name a few. They are fundamental to the ongoing care of our residents at Charles E. Smith Life Communities.
Join us as we hear from Rabbi Mike Schultz, Head of Spiritual Care, Oncology Institute, Rambam Medical Center, Haifa, Israel. Rabbi Schultz will present an overview of the research done to quantify the effects of chaplains’ care to improve well-being and even medical outcomes.
After receiving ordination from Yeshivat Chovevei Torah, Mike was a chaplain resident at New York Presbyterian – Weill Cornell in New York City. Mike is certified as a milaveh ruchani (Spiritual Caregiver) and an educator, teaching a professional training course in Rambam hospital’s academic arm, Rambam College. He is playing an active role in developing the field of chaplaincy in Israel, serving on the executive board of the Israel Spiritual Care Association (the professional association in Israel) and chairing its Professional Committee.
Rabbi Daniel Braune-Friedman, Director of Pastoral Care at CELSC, will speak about the diverse spiritual care offerings on our campus.
