NORTH BETHESDA, Md. – June 11, 2025 – Charles E. Smith Life Communities (CESLC), a premier provider of senior living and healthcare services for older adults, is pleased to announce the acquisition of SmithLife® Homecare, one of the leading and most respected in-home care providers serving the Greater Washington region.
“Bringing SmithLife Homecare fully under the CESLC umbrella is a natural next step for meeting the diverse needs of a new generation of older adults,” said CESLC President and CEO Bruce Lederman. “Since our founding in 1910, CESLC has continued to develop new residences and offerings to empower older adults through the delivery of quality services and care. While many people choose a senior living lifestyle as they grow older, others want to remain at home as long as is practical and safe. SmithLife Homecare can make this possible.”
Prior to the acquisition, CESLC held a 50 percent ownership interest in SmithLife Homecare, but without operational control.
“Homecare is a critical component of helping older adults remain at home as long as possible,” said Delores Clearfield, senior director of CESLC SeniorCare Ventures. “Full integration with CESLC will strengthen our services and benefit both existing and new clients with the expanded resources that go along with joining this respected organization. We are proud of this milestone and excited for the opportunities to come.”
Founded in 2000, SmithLife Homecare provides a multitude of home nursing services that range from post-hospital care, day surgery companion care and supportive care, to daily home visits for meal preparation, personal care, companionship and other needs right in the comfort of the client’s home.
As a fully integrated part of Charles E. Smith Life Communities, SmithLife Homecare clients will have access to a wider range of resources, a greater depth of clinical expertise and smoother coordination across the full spectrum of services offered by CESLC.
