June 26 @ 1 p.m. - 2 p.m.
Event Navigation
Presenter: Dr William Mansbach, the founder and CEO of Mansbach Health Tools LLC, which supports the BCAT® Research Center. He is also the CEO and President of CounterPoint Health Services, a multi-disciplinary behavioral healthcare company specializing in geriatrics and dementia care.
For older adults, cognition should be considered a “vital sign.” Vital signs are measurements of the body’s basic functions. Cognition is at the center of everything we do and is essential for us to successfully perform everyday tasks.
In senior living communities, routine administration of cognitive screening and assessment tools informs healthcare providers to the presence and/ or severity of cognitive impairment and supports targeted care planning. Senior living communities that leverage the BCAT® Approach use these objective measures to predict functional performance, specifically the ability to participate in IADL/ ADL activities.
The BCAT® Approach offers a scientifically validated way for center teams to not only assess residents, but to also offer evidence-based brain health programming.
Communities that offer person-centered cognitive activities mitigate against decline and promote cognitive wellness.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will understand how cogntiive screening and or assessment informs the interprofessional team by providing objective measures that indicate each resident’s ability to participate in their own care and/ or treatment decisions.
- Participants will be able to identify the 7 key brain healthy lifestyle habits that can be incorporated into daily routies to promote the overall brain health of residents, families and staff
- Participants will learn how working memory and other cognitive exercises can be used to build cognitive reserve and promote independence in residents across the continuum of care.
