Titled ‘Aging in America: Mental Health Crisis in a Geriatric Population’, the symposium provided over 200 professionals with insightful information on geriatric mental illness research, which included several breakout sessions where area healthcare providers had the opportunity to speak directly with experts in the field of geriatric psychiatry.
Dr. Steven S. Sharfstein, MD., MPA, delivered the keynote and gave a presentation on geriatric mental health and the challenges faced in the 21st century. Dr. Sharfstein is a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Maryland. His background includes former President and Chief Executive Officer of the Sheppard Pratt Health System. He has held positions at the National Institute of Mental Health and is a leading expert in the economics of practice and public mental health policy.
